One of our times Greatest progressive melodic metal bands, truly GREAT songs showing great depth of emotion and talent!

In April 2010 Darkwater started to record their new album “Where stories end”. The famous Studio "Fredman" was chosen for the mix and mastering of the album, and during the summer of 2010 the album was completed, also recording a music video for the opening track of the album “Breathe”.

With all the great reviews and response for their debut album, Darkwater surely felt some pressure to produce a great follow-up album, which they managed to do without any doubts. “Where stories end” is a master piece of melodic progressive metal, and will not leave any fans of the band or the genre disappointed.

Darkwater was formed late 2003 in the western parts of Sweden. During the first years of existence they only did a few selected shows in Sweden while working on the material for their debut album. During summer and fall 2006, Darkwater recorded and mixed the album, and early 2007 a deal was inked with the Swedish label Ulterium Records.

“Calling the earth to witness” was released in May 2007 and received extremely good reviews from all around the world. Darkwater’s perfect blend of melodic and progressive metal was something the scene was craving for, and while taking inspiration from bands like Symphony X, Dream Theater and Evergrey, Darkwater have for sure created a sound of their own.

In May 2008 Darkwater recorded and released a music video for the track “The play II” and in June they went did their first show in the US, at the Bay Area Rock Fest together with Liquid Tension Experiment, Jeff Scott Soto among others.

During 2009 the band parted ways with their bass player Karl Wassholm, and stepping in as bass player for the band is Simon Andersson [ex. Pain of Salvation].

  1. perfect progressive blend Review by ibleave

Been waiting for this one, and the wait was well worth it! Listened to it for the first time on my MP3 while working out, and I loved it. I like the fact that you can hear every instrument pretty much equally, with no one instrument overpowering the others. The entire CD ranges from hard and powerful to smooth and melodic with an overall symphonic quality, simply put, and perfect progressive blend. There are times when Henrik Bath sounds a little like Kahn of Kamelot on some of the slower melodies. Overall, I think he has the perfect voice for this particular style of symphonic Progressive metal. Once again, Henrik Bath and Markus Sigfridsson have proven to be very adept songwriters, putting meaningful lyrics with powerful complex music. Simply put, this is one of the best prog albums out this year and ensures that Darkwater will be around for a long time. (Posted on 7/27/13)

  2. a musical extravaganza Review by Megaloud

This review from SEA OF TRANQUILITY

Sweden once was known for ABBA as being the music that came from this Scandinavian country. Nowadays, Sweden no longer represents the world of Pop, no, they have changed to the world of Heavy Rockers.

DarkWater is one of the bands in the front-line. With their high powered symphonic progressive metal they play an important part in Swedish music. Where Stories End is the sophomore release by the band from Sweden. The first one was released back in 2008, and was lavished with good reviews all around.

This may be even better than their first effort, as I feel they have established their own sound now. Sure, if we need pointers of what we need to think of I would go into the direction of Queensryche, but Dream Theater pointers are also present or Shadow Gallery. Most of the Progressive metal bands apply here as far as a reference point.

We are treated to great guitar work, heavy on the keyboards, and I also hear violin. In short a musical extravaganza of the finest sorts.

Mark my words, keep your eye on these guys, they have gigantic potential to become a big name in progressive metal. You can feel in seventh heaven, make your Nightwish to become true, Let Dark Water play for you.
