POWER PROG is proud to announce the signing of the highly occupied Swedish Neo-Prog/Rock package ASTRAKHAN. Our first common goal is it to release their phenomenal debut album "Retrospective" in Europe and in North America (as distribution via our partner Nightmare Records) at November 15, 2013.
With love for Hard Rock and hatred of the genres conventions and standardization the Schelander brothers began writing songs together many years ago. To write music together, simply for the love of writing, was an old christmas tradition between the brothers. The winter breaks filled the house with reggae, samba, rock and a lot of other songs in different genres. But in 2005 things got more serious. The goal was to write 10 songs, each with its own identity but still naturally included in a collection of ten. One rule was that each song would have free reign to take the paths it wanted to. Like characters in a novel the songs would be able to travel their own ways and the composer's task was only to document its path.
The songs wrote themselves, but the real difficulty was to find a singer who could do the songs justice. Many talented, reputable names have tested the material but no one made it all the way. Finally Alex Lycke entered the vocal booth and delivered the lines with passion, confidence and a voice with everything you can ask for in a classic rock/prog band.
Alex has over the past ten years, worked as a singer with Europe as a scene. But Astrakhan is Alex's first release in a group. Add Marcus Jidell (Evergrey, Royal Hunt) who has taken care of guitars, mix and production and also will handle the guitars on tours and you have a group that will meet the requirements of years to come.
Astrakhan is thus composed of equal parts experience and musicality, with high level of curiosity and hunger.
"Retrospective" is the impressive proof of how to act across genres and to bring several worlds of Rock music to one point. Incredible songwriting with melodies that don't get out of your ear paired with classic 70's prog elements, instrumental and vocally mastery on the highest level and a consciously earthy sound production, inspired by the classics and yet exceptionally fresh, make this album a true masterpiece for a wide range of Rock/Prog lovers.
Absolutely best choice for fans of Kansas, Styx, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Yes, ELP and 70's style classic Rock/Hard Rock and Prog in general ...
